     Construction Progress

Page 3

On Thursday, October 31, 2002, the driveway and parking lot was in final preparation for paving.  Then on Thursday, November 7th, the precast concrete planks arrived for installation on the area between the brick school building and the new parish center.  The following pictures are photos from those stages of our construction.

The workers finish the prep work near the church for the new driveway that will exit the parking lot. The paving begins with the equipment in place and they start along the stone wall. The project gets underway and our new parking lot becomes a reality. The workers finish the area long the stone wall.

Another view of the paving. A look across the parking lot waiting to be paved. The asphalt moves across the yard to become a parking lot. The area behind the church is finished first.

The trucks with the hot asphalt move into place. A view of the area behind the rectory and next to the church. A longer shot of the same view as the project makes progress. Visible progress as the yard is paved an available with more room for cars.

A view of the completed project as the new exit is in place. The crane that was needed to lift the precast concrete planks into place. One of the planks is hoisted from the truck to be placed. The plank begins to be airborne as it is lifted into position.

Another angle to view the plank as it starts its ascent. The plank rises with the new center in the background. Higher and higher ... and higher ...

and still higher ... and yet higher ... once over the building it is lowered into place between the two structures. Its placed between the brick school on the left and the new building to the right.

A view of the work so far, looking from the rear of the rectory, the area closest is where the chapel is to be located. A perspective of our newly completed parking lot looking east from behind the school toward the church. Ed and Phil work on the site of the new garage to prepare the footings. A view of the building so far of the main entrance on Hamilton Street.

Looking up from the basement through the layers of the building where the central stairway will be located. A view of the forms for the stairs that will lead from the entrance on Hamilton Street to a doorway in the basement.  To the right is a rampway. A perspective of the basement area closest  to the parking lot which will be used for storage.  It is located under the chapel. A view of the terrace underneath, outside the cafeteria door (which is to the left, the new building is on the right, Hamilton St is straight ahead).

From the front corner nearest the rectory through a function room across toward the school. A view of the area that will be used as a food bank once complete.  To the center is the doorway from the street to the basement. A perspective of the terrace with the precast cement planks in place.  This area is between the gym and the new center. Another view of the terrace, looking more toward the school.

A front corner angle of the building as seen from Hamilton Street during a snowstorm. A view from the rectory of the attic toward the parking lot.  The chapel area is on the left. Another attic view of the front of the building where one can see that the floors are ready for warmer weather. Another view of the front of the building taken from the attic for a perspective looking at each of the floors.

The building takes its form as the roof is lined with the knee wall framing. A view from Hamilton Street.  The open space is where a pointed gable will be constructed. The view from the rectory, showing the various levels. The view from the church doors with the chapel area front and center.

Part of our reconstruction includes a new garage.  Here the footings are in place.

A view from the driveway of the new angle of the garage to facilitate parking and movement.  A close up view of the footings for the new garage.  Notice that they are pinned since the rock is close to the surface. The cement arrives for the pouring of the footings and the new garage is closer to reality.

The pouring takes place for a new garage to be constructed. Despite our best hopes, the winter has turned harder and colder earlier than expected, the building is wrapped to pour the concrete floors. A view from the parking lot of the building as the second floor wrapping is complete. A view from the entrance of parking lot as the building near the school is closed in for heating purposes to pour the flooring.

Inside the wrapping, a look at the floors poured on January 15th. This area is the chapel.  The blue tarp overhead will be a skylight. This is from the second floor looking down through the stairway. This area is the doorway that faces Hamilton St where a porch will be.

This area is on the second floor and is over the doorway from the parking lot.  To the right is the chapel roof. This area is also the second floor and is a look from further back from the picture to the left.   This area, with the ramp, is on the second floor, above the large meeting room, and will be classrooms.  This is the second floor area, over the conference room, closest to the parking lot and the school.
